Aberrant Sidewalk

Sidewalk aberrations form in cities when there is sufficient instability and ability to suspend disbelief in the lower atmosphere and among the mass population.   Instability refers to global and local economic and political conditions that are increasingly unpredictable and negative.  Ability to suspend disbelief increases during a sustained period of socio-economic turmoil.  Declining faith in future stability is thought to cause tectonic shifts in perception, which coincide with the appearance of aberrations in the infrastructure.

Sidewalk aberrations of this kind are predicted to occur in New York City throughout the five boroughs in the warmer months of 2009. Viewer comments are listed below.  Locations and times will be updated on www.aberrationtracking.com.

.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          “Tubisms: Cars”                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   A temporary public art series on NYC streets from May-September 2007.  Assistants and I approached ordinary cars while wearing mechanics coveralls and uncoiled fifty-foot long tubes from within them before twisting and wrapping the tube over, under and through the cars’ structure.  Each event lasted approximately two hours while we interacted more with viewers, soliciting answers to the the question, “What does this make you think of? Imagine a New York Building filled with giant tubes twisting around the building and in and out of the windows. Tubisms: Building is in the planning phase.
